Difference between Java and J2EE

Java J2EE
Java SE stands for Java Standard Edition. It is normally used for developing desktop applications, forms the core/base API.Java EE, i.e. Java Enterprise Edition. This was originally known as Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition or J2EE. The name was eventually changed to Java Platform, Enterprise Edition or Java EE in version 5. Java EE is mainly used for applications which run on servers, such as web sites.
First version of JDK came by JDK Alpha and Beta (1995).First version of J2EE came by name JPE (May 1998) and next came by J2EE 1.2 (December 12, 1999).
Java holds all its java core libraries, AWT, Swing related libraries.J2EE holds JSP, Servlets, EJB, JDBC etc.
Application runs on desktop (e.g. Notepad, Paint etc) where do not require any server.Here it requires server to execute applications (e.g. Websites).
