Answer: The EXIT statement in COBOL is used to terminate a loop prematurely. It allows the program to exit a PERFORM loop or a Section before reaching the normal end.

Example:

PERFORM UNTIL EOF-FLAG = 'Y'

    EXIT.
  END-IF.
END-PERFORM.
